Alejandro Merino has been crowned the winner of the third edition of the Greenwalk Awards with his creation "The Radix" during a gala hosted by Raquel Sánchez Silva with Carmen Lomana as godmother and held at El Ventanal de la Sierra Shopping Centre, Madrid.
This fashion contest awards the winner, chosen from among twelve fashion students from nine universities, with a course at prestigious Central Saint Martins in London with the aim of shaping a sustainable scenario for the future of fashion. The different students involved propose new approaches in their designs and patterns based on techniques such as recycling and upcycling.
This year, the contest enjoyed the support of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), which works actively on training young designers regarding sustainability. ACME collaborates in the promotion of the contest and is also a part of the jury through one of the members of its board of directors; Paloma Álvarez, fashion designer and co-creative director of firm Malne. Other members of the jury are Carmen Lomana, fashion consultant and stylist Mayte de la Iglesia, fashion marketing expert Lucía Vargas and model and content creator Álvaro García.
Merino's creation was made entirely with wheat roots and grass after a process of germination, cutting, cleaning and drying prior to the making of a futuristic dress. A completely biodegradable proposal that fuses the beauty of nature with sophistication in a balanced manner, evoking the great fashion classics.
