The young designer joins ACME due to the agreement reached in 2014 between Vogue and the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España whereby the winners of the Who's on Next award will join said professional organization.
For the creator from Jaén, "to enter ACME means being surrounded by friends and colleagues", and he joins the Association with the hope of developing new projects along with other relevant names in Spanish fashion: "Thank you for believing in my brand," he states.
With his incorporation, there are already 62 members of ACME, an Association that encompasses the most important fashion design brands in the country, including Juan Vidal, Maria Ke Fisherman, ManéMané and Moisés Nieto, winners of the previous editions Of Who's on Next.
Among the aims and objectives of ACME is the promotion of commercial, cultural and communication activities that will benefit the fashion design sector as well as the representation and the safe guarding of the professional interests of its members.
The Who's On Next contest is a unique initiative that awards a revelation designer each year. In this last edition the jury has been composed of prominent local and global fashion professionals such as designer Alber Elbaz, who acted as Chairman of the Jury; international editor of Vogue Suzy Menkes; Director of Vogue Spain, Eugenia de la Torriente; designer Carolina Adriana Herrera; Director of MBFWM, Charo Izquierdo; Executive Director of ACME, Pepa Bueno, and the Director of Communication of Inditex, Mercedes Domecq, among others.
The delivery of this award has become a not-to.be-missed event, being the fashion award with greater economic endowment of our country thanks to the support of the Inditex Group. This prestigious contest is part of the Vogue Fashion Fund, an initiative of great projection that unites the international editions of Vogue in a commitment towards searching and promotion of new talents in fashion design.
Leandro Cano participated for the first time in EGO platform in 2012 and months later he was selected to show in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin as finalist of the award Designer for Tomorrow, of which he was proclaimed winner among over 360 contestants, receiving a scholarship to develop a collection with the advice of who will become his mentor, designer Marc Jacobs.
With his own idea of fashion, the creations of Leandro Cano escape the trends seeking exclusivity. His work is defined by the originality of his pieces, a taste for detail and the exquisite application of craft techniques which has led him to develop projects with artisans from all over the country, such as leading specialists in leather goods from Ubrique and manufacturers of Ezcaray blankets in La Rioja, among others. The young creator is 100% committed to sustainable and responsible production, as well as the use of natural fibres in his creations, especially wool.
