From February 13th to 18th, Madrid es Moda will bring Spanish author fashion closer through events held throughout the city. A live runway becomes a showcase for new artistic narratives that is open to the public and which will have a grand opening: A fashion show in the Plaza de la Villa.
Acromatyx, Adlib Ibiza, Avellaneda x See Iou, Bibencia, Canarias Islas de Moda, Carlota Barrera, Carmen Farala, Daniel Chong, Devota & Lomba, Dolores Promesas, Dominnico, Duyos, E.R.A.X., Eduardo Navarrete, García Madrid, Guillermo Décimo, Javier Delafuente, Johanna Calderón, Juan Vidal, Juanjo Oliva, Luis Berrendero, Maison Mesa, Malne, Marcos Luengo, María Lafuente, Miguel Marinero, Moisés Nieto, Odette Álvarez, Oteyza, Paloma Suárez, Peñalver Brand, Roberto Torretta, Roberto Verino, SKFK, Serra Studio, Teresa Helbig, The Extreme Collection, Ulises Mérida and WE ARE SPASTOR are the 39 designers and firms that during Madrid es Moda will showcase their new, ongoing or capsule collections in fashion shows, presentations and exhibits, held in art galleries, ateliers, shops, hotels and other places representative of Madrid.
The event includes, during February, Madrid es Moda HUB, a parallel programme of activities such as pop-ups, open days, digital launches and talks becoming a meeting point for creators, professionals and the public by offering diverse experiences with author fashion as the protagonist.
Madrid es Moda will kick off once again with a powerful urban event. A new milestone for Spanish fashion organised together with Madrid City Council, which places the capital city at the same level of other world leaders in the industry, such as Paris, London, Milan or New York.
The inaugural MeM fashion show will be held on Thursday 13th February at 12:30 pm in the Plaza de la Villa, one of Madrid's main medieval hubs. A unique runway held in the heart of the town's heritage, and on which more than 25 designers, accompanied by 50 models, will present their fashion proposals. The staging will also recall, inspired by a return to the city's origins, and through the figure of "las violeteras", a fundamental part of Madrid's most traditional and popular history.
Espadrilles, traditional hats or crochet pieces will complete the designs as a tribute to the craftsmanship of century-old shops in the centre of Madrid, which are also the protagonists of MeM's teaser and its graphic campaign. Among these are; La Favorita hat shop in the Plaza Mayor, Lucio J&M fabric store on Calle Imperial, Almacén de Pontejos on Calle Correos and Casa Hernanz, the legendary espadrille shop on Calle Toledo.
Since MeM's creation, the city of Madrid and its most emblematic enclaves have always played a leading role. Puerta de Alcalá, Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Centre, Plaza de Colón, Paseo del Prado, the steps of the Anthropological Museum, Serrería Belga Cultural Space, the courtyard of the National Archaeological Museum, the Cuesta de Moyano Book Fair, the courtyards of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts or the monument to Alfonso XII in the pond of El Retiro Park, among other iconic spaces and monuments, have been the settings chosen to inaugurate and to hold different activities thanks to the support of the Madrid City Council.
Madrid es Moda is an initiative promoted by the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME) with the support of Madrid City Council through the Madrid Capital de Moda programme led by the Government Area of Economy, Innovation and Finance. Consolidated as the project that best represents Spanish author fashion as well as the values of slow fashion, it was a pioneering initiative in bringing fashion to the street, and to the final public, promoting its knowledge and hence consumption. MeM is a platform that integrates the community of author fashion, and that supports the current guidelines that mark the sector: new ways of presenting and consuming fashion that are far removed from seasonal constraints. MeM's work in this regard was recognised at the first edition of the Awards of Fundación Academida de la Moda Española, held last June, winning the award for the Promotion and Diffusion of Spanish Fashion. A recognition of the Madrid es Moda project by the Foundation's academics due to its revitalization of the sector.
