Palomo Spain, Premio Nacional de Diseño Award 2024

The Ministry of Culture announced yesterday that Alejandro Gómez Palomo (Palomo Spain) has been awarded the Premio Nacional de Diseño 2024, a recognition created in 2009 by the Ministry of Culture at the request of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España.

“I am very proud of the work we have carried out with my team from the beginning. It has been a daily fight against the clock, but all this effort has been rewarded with this distinguished recognition. I also want to thank my family who has always supported me and is very happy with my achievements,” stated the designer.

“As president of ACME, and on behalf of its Board of Directors, I want to convey my satisfaction to the acknowledgement of the worth and talent of Palomo Spain with this award. This is a special award for the Association as it was created at our proposal to the Ministry of Culture to include within the National Culture Awards an award dedicated to fashion to enhance and give the sector visibility" comments Modesto Lomba, President of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), of which Palomo Spain has been a member since 2019.

“Alejandro Palomo has been breaking stereotypes and tearing boundaries for many years: those related to gender; cultural frontiers; the confinement of set the rules that define what is correct and what is not... And transforming the language of fashion into a declaration of principles. I have seen boys and girls crying with emotion after one of his classes, because discovering the freedom of their creations helped them discover their own freedom. On the other hand, his fashion dialogue has gone far beyond the Spanish scope, and from the first moment his fashion collections have been international. For all these reasons, this is an award for which the entire fashion community should be congratulated,” adds Pepa Bueno, Executive Director of ACME.

The award jury unanimously recognized “the work of a creator who has managed to assert his own perspective within the fashion design sector, giving voice to inclusion, diversity and advocating for new formats of artistic expression through a disruptive proposal.” It is an award that “recognizes a career that is on the rise, brave and committed to the creation of fashion as a language of vindication and expression of values.”

Likewise, they valued the designer's support for the transformation process of the fashion design ecosystem with a characteristic aesthetic: irreverent, baroque and bold. “Palomo Spain has been a catalyst for a new generation of creatives. Furthermore, he has made it possible to bring fashion design closer to new audiences through different collaborations,” they add. The jury also wished to highlight the value of this independent firm based in Posadas (Córdoba), from where it contributes towards broadcasting globally Spain's brand image.

Alejandro Palomo was born in Córdoba in 1992, he always knew that he liked the world of fashion. With this passion he moved to London to enroll at the London College of Fashion in Men's Design and Technology and created Palomo Spain. A fashion brand that combines the designer and creative director's dramatic spirit along with the sophisticated and urban street style of the British capital city. With baroque reminiscences and Andalusian airs, Palomo Spain eliminates gender differences and composes a maximalist aesthetic that reinvents the canons of masculinity. Alejandro's unique and controversial vision, along with his curious nature and obsessive attention to detail, has helped him make a difference from the beginning.

The Premio Nacional de Diseño Award, given by the Ministry of Culture, is endowed with 30,000 euros. Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Amaya Arzuaga, Ángel Fernández Ovejero, Ana Locking, Antonio Alvarado, David Delfín, Elio Berhanyer, Josep Font, Manolo Blahnik, Paco Rabanne, Sybilla and Teresa Helbig are some of its previous awardees.
