After the contest organized by the British School of Madrid, El Corte Inglés and the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), designer Teresa Helbig received the award for holding the creative proposal most valued by the jury. This initiative arose due to the 75th anniversary of the School and with the purpose of updating not only the image but also the quality of the fabrics of the uniform.
Twelve designers integrated in ACME presented the School their vision of what the new uniform would be. Proposals based on the expectations and needs of the students: inspired by British tradition but with innovative details and bearing comfort and reliability as main references.
"We are really impressed and grateful for the warm welcome of the initiative and the quality of the proposals. It has certainly not been easy for the jury to choose one single option, "explains Silvia Prado, Director of Communication and Marketing of the British Council School.
"Just like a rolling stone, where tradition is renewed through contact with other cultures and traditions, the fact that it is a Spanish designer the one responsible of updating the image of such a prestigious British institution makes this contest a dialogue that enriches significantly all the parties involved, "says Pepa Bueno, Executive Director of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME).
The presentation event included speeches from Simon Manley, British Ambassador to Spain and Rod Pryde, director of The British Council Spain, together with Modesto Lomba, President of ACME.
The event, held in El Corte Inglés of Castellana, also enjoyed the presence of the jury:
Gillian Flaxman (Director of the British Council School)
Magali Yus (Director of Fashion Communication of El Corte Ingles)
Jonathan Anderson (Creative Director of Loewe)
Enrique Loewe (former student of the British Council School and President of the Loewe Foundation)
Jorge Garcia (current parent of the School and designer of The Extreme Collection)
