Dolores Cortés, founder of the mythical swimwear brand, has been acknowledged as Honorary Citizen of the City of Vila-Real in the town's auditorium Musician Rafael Beltrán Moner.
The City Council, at the proposal of the Mayor, José Belloch, agreed unanimously to grant this title in recognition of a career that is highly relevant for Castellón. It was precisely in the city of Vila-Real that she started her swimwear fashion business in 1950s. Dolores Cortés was a pioneer of her time, an example of an enterprising woman at a moment when very few women dared to wear swimsuits, for which she used techniques that would revolutionize the sector. The Valencian creator was the author of the first elastic swimsuit in our country, ahead of the arrival of materials like elastano to Spain.
Today, the headquarters of the Dolores Cortés brand continues in this city, from which they make swimsuits that go around the world and that are showcased in important catwalks such as Miami Fashion Week Swim or Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid. Dolores Font, daughter of the creator and current creative director and manager of her label, did not want to miss the event warmly embracing, together with employees, friends and prominent personalities from the Spanish city of Castellon, a woman who is key in Spanish fashion history.
