During this edition, Cuca Solana will be especially remembered. A personal tribute will be paid to her on Monday July 8th at IFEMA, which will have the support and participation of the designers and the management of ACME. Additionally, the Association has wanted to join in this recognition by naming the historic director of Cibeles, Honorary Associate in Memoriam, and thus value her tireless work at the forefront of our fashion week.
This will be Charo Izquierdo’s last edition at the head of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid. The journalist says goodbye to the runway to embark on a new professional path. Nuria de Miguel will be in charge of stepping into her position. From ACME we want to thank the work of Charo Izquierdo in the management of MBFWM since her arrival in 2016, and we send our best wishes for her new projects.
The fashion shows, an economic motor for the city of Madrid
ACME’s firms, which account for 70% of the fashion shows on the official schedule of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, invested more than 2 million Euros in last edition’s fashion shows. Personnel expenses, purchase of fabrics, haberdashery and accessories, pattern design, clothing, etc., are just some of the essential expenses when creating the prototypes that we see on the runways, to which we must also add hiring a public relations and communication agency, runway participation fee, scenography, styling and a long etcetera of expenses derived from the productions and organization of a fashion show.
Regarding ACME’S designers, an average of more than 75,000 Euros is spent to upload their collections on the Madrid runway. This figure represents an investment of more than 4 million Euros per year, which represents an important injection into the economy of our country’s capital city.
Recall that ACME firms invoiced 474 million euros in 2017. This figure increased by 7.2% over the previous year. This growth has allowed our fashion brands to invest more and more in the presentation of their collections, to bet on innovation, sustainability, production in proximity, craftsmanship and, above all, quality.
Madrid es Moda takes the runway to the city centre
The official schedule of MBFWM has more and more fashion shows off the IFEMA trade show venue, taking the runway to emblematic places in Madrid such as Puerta del Sol, Matadero or the Cecilio Rodríguez Gardens. In this regard, we should mention the celebration in parallel to the fashion week of the urban fashion festival Madrid es Moda, which has already reached nine editions.
Exhibitions, special shop windows, fashion shows, museum tours, fashion shows, talks on sustainable fashion, gastronomic collaborations, fashion films and special shopping actions will invade the city from July 1st to 14th with MADRID ES MODA, which in this edition has a new graphic image, designed by Pedro del Hierro. Taking fashion out of its usual context is one of the main premises of this festival, which in this edition, and also coinciding with the celebration of Opera Week, will feature for the first time the participation of the Teatro Real, which will offer guided tours to its Tailoring and Characterization Workshops.
Another of the star activities of the IX edition of MeM will take place in the mall Moda Shopping, where there will be a pop up store of Spanish designers such as Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Beatriz Peñalver, Dolores Cortés, Moisés Nieto, Lexdeux, Pilar Dalbat or Aurelia Gil, among others.
The Window Dressing Contest (in its professional and novel categories) is once again one of the main protagonists of this festival. It is also worth highlighting the actions planned at the National Museum of Decorative Arts, which will feature an exhibition by Roberto Verino and the screening of the fashion film that Malne has prepared for Madrid es Moda, among many other activities that we invite you to discover.[:]
