The Gran Canaria Moda Cálida program continues its 2025/2026 training cycle with a practical workshop focusing on textile transformation and sustainability taught by designer Maya Hansen. The workshop took place at the Gran Canaria School of Art and Design aimed at the school’s faculty.
Titled “Upcycling Denim – From Jeans to the Corsetted Top“, the workshop explores the reuse of denim garments to create corset-style tops. During the session, Hansen worked with moulage techniques and unconventional pattern making, applying them to textile repurposing processes designed for teaching purposes.
This initiative is a part of a training program promoted by the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España in collaboration with Gran Canaria Island’s Council, within a series of activities that connect training, professional practice, and sustainability in the field of fashion design. The Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts of Gran Canaria Island’s Council, Minerva Alonso, attended during the day the session, and toured the work carried out by the participating teachers.
