The Gran Canaria Moda Cálida training program kicks off with an intensive leathercraft workshop led by artisan Santi Carballo, which focuses on the design and creation of leather bags. This activity is part of a series of workshops for the island’s schools, promoted by the Gran Canaria Island’s Council and the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME).
The workshop is designed as a hands-on training experience focused on working with fine materials as well as the processes inherent to the leathercraft trade. Through the complete development of a piece, participants will explore phases such as design, cutting, and assembly, emphasizing in the classroom the construction of the object and the application of technical knowledge.
This initiative is part of a program that prioritizes the transmission of artisanal knowledge to teachers and students, thus expanding the pedagogical resources related to fashion crafts. In this context, leathercraft is incorporated as a specific discipline within the educational curriculum.
Santi Carballo’s workshop is held as a part of the cycle’s first meetings, which take place throughout the year with different specialties related to design and tailoring.
