The Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España support once again fashion training

On November 24th and 28th, IES La Minilla in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria hosted two technical sessions on ceremonial fashion taught by Canarian designer Pedro Palmas and designer Ogadenia Díaz. An initiative aimed at the teachers from the fashion cycles organized by the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España (ACME) in collaboration with Gran Canaria Moda Cálida and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.

Pedro Palmas inaugurated the workshops by taking a tour of the history of men’s tailoring by exploring the differences between English and Neapolitan tailoring. He also explained the necessary steps to create a ceremonial dress suit and immersed all attendees in the magnificent universe of fabrics.

On the other hand, Ogadenia Díaz presented a retrospective of her most iconic and significant wedding dresses, addressing the connection between traditional fabrics and textures with current trends, demonstrating how this synthesis can give rise to timeless as well as avant-garde designs.

It was on this last day when the Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso, visited the centre, announcing that in January the Moda Cálida team will sit down again with the IES La Minilla to listen to new proposals. “I believe that collaborative work between public administrations and educational centres is essential to give fashion a future on the island, and we are going to try to make this collaboration increasingly closer,” she commented before the teachers who, for one day, occupied the students role.

These conferences join the long list of projects promoted by Gran Canaria Moda Cálida since its union with ACME in 2018 to promote training and provide advice for designers and professionals in the sector who are part of the island’s textile culture, a priority for both organizations.
