The Cabildo and ACME bring the art of Leather Goods closer to the island´s fashion students and teachers

Yesterday afternoon, IES La Minilla in Las Palmas; a centre of reference that teaches three specialised degrees in fashion, hosted the first activity of the Training Action for fashion teachers and students of the island of Gran Canaria. Lasting five days, which will focus mainly on the art of leather goods, it is a part of the initiatives that the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through its Gran Canaria Moda Cálida program and the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), are designing to promote education and advice for the future generations of the Island’s textile culture.

“We renew our commitment to training with the best partners, such as ACME, because we believe that it is essential to continue to deepen and improve the knowledge of our teachers, as well as that of the future generations who must nourish the Moda Cálida program, and who will arrive better prepared each time in order to boost the Island’s textile industry.” stated Minerva Alonso, Economic Development Councillor, who attended yesterday afternoon the talk that Héctor Jareño; founder of the firm Reliquiae and leather goods director of Pertegaz, offered to the students on entrepreneurship in author fashion.

“At ACME we firmly believe in education as an essential tool for the profession’s development. We are delighted to accompany Gran Canaria Moda Cálida in this great training project for the sector,” adds Pepa Bueno, executive director of ACME.

Héctor Jareño inaugurated his program with the Workshop Leather Goods. Design and Conceptualisation of a Collection, by taking an interesting fashion tour through Spanish and European business models with the aim of reflecting and learning about the importance of management and brand development in this cultural industry. Today will be the second part of the training; a workshop for teachers that will analyse the creation process from a theoretical and practical point of view, covering both product design as well as the business aspects that must be taken into account to ensure success.
