OTEYZA Develops Its Own Extra-Fine Spanish Merino Cloth

02/02/2026

OTEYZA presents, after ten years of continuous work, its very own 100% extra-fine merino cloth made from premium Spanish wool. The development stems from extensive fiber research, and its properties, with the aim of obtaining a fabric that meets international technical standards.

The project focuses on restoring the physical qualities of Spanish merino: fiber length, fineness, and an R8 crimp structure—eight crimps per centimeter—which determines the fabric’s elasticity, strength, and resilience. This configuration allows for the production of a stable fabric, designed for demanding garment-making processes and long-lasting use.

The cloth’s production is built from the ground up, in collaboration with historic Spanish merino farms together with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, through the EAGGF (European Agricultural Guarantee Fund), which provides a framework for control, monitoring, and ethical as well as sustainable production criteria throughout the entire supply chain.

The spinning and finishing phases are carried out through specialized technical collaborations, allowing the fabric to be adjusted to international standards without altering the specific properties of Spanish wool. The result is a fabric conceived from the raw material, with direct control over each stage of its transformation.

Alongside the production of fabrics, OTEYZA has begun marketing 100% Spanish extra-fine merino yarns. Within this context lies the collaborative project with the Royal Tapestry Factory, to which the company supplies merino yarn for the production of carpets and tapestries, expanding the material’s application beyond haute couture to the decorative arts.
