The Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME) and the Fundación Academia de la Moda Española (FAME) have submitted a plea to the Royal Decree draft regarding waste management of textile products and footwear.
The organizations are calling for a model that adapts to the Spanish business environment that does not penalize competitiveness, with measures such as a clearer definition of producer, proportionality in obligations, and a one-stop regulatory consultancy to help SMEs and micro-enterprises comply with said regulation.
“We are concerned about the negative impacts this regulation may have in Spain's fashion sector, which has such a significant impact on the economy, social fabric, territorial capillarity, and cultural sphere. The loss of competitiveness or the closure of small companies would be a serious mistake,” states Pepa Bueno, Executive Director of ACME and Vice President of FAME.
ACME and FAME argue that circularity should be an opportunity to strengthen Spanish fashion internationally, not an additional barrier.
