Couture as a way of life

– A dress makes no difference.

– Watch and learn, Gertrude, watch and learn …

This dialogue belongs to The Dressmaker a romantic drama starring Kate Winslet opening in Spain on 18th of March. It tells the story of an Australian designer who, after spending many years in Europe working in haute couture, returns to her hometown to take care of her elderly mother … and to reopen old wounds.

But, as noted in the dialogue above, the movie is also a reflection on the ability of fashion to transform reality. The tape previews exclusively in Madrid es Moda, on 23rd February at 19.30hrs., in Cine Paz (Calle Fuencarral, 125).  Days earlier, on February 20th, a workshop day has been organized in Miss Costuras that has precisely couture as the reason for being.

“We believe that fashion and clothing can influence someone’s life, as long and as far as it determines our essence … it is the external explosion of someone’s inner being.” explains passionately Beatriz Serantes, responsible for Miss Costuras, coinciding with the leitmotif film.

To participate in these Fashion Workshops simply book simply sending an email to info@misscosturas.com, with the subject “Talleres Madrid es Moda La Modista”. “Students come to learn in a practical way, but sewing, being such a rewarding task, serves as an escape and therapy for many people attending,” assures Serantes. Piece of cake, then.
