The Thyssen opens the doors to the work of Hubert de Givenchy

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum opens the doors to the world of fashion housing the first major retrospective of the French couturier Hubert de Givenchy, Honorary Associate of ACME, which will be open to visitors until January 18th, 2015.

The Thyssen showcases the work of couturier with pieces made through out half a century of experience, since the opening in 1952 of his Maison in Paris until his professional retirement in 1995.

Hubert de Givenchy is one of the designers essential in fashion of the twentieth century, being the dressmaker of choice of the international high society for decades. The Duchess of Windsor and Jacqueline Kennedy were among his illustrious clients, among which certainly is highlighted Audrey Hepburn, for whom he designed numerous wardrobe pieces for her films and to whom he was bonded by a deep friendship.

For the exhibit were selected about a hundred of his best pieces, arriving from museums and private collections around the world and many of them undiscovered by the public, that dialogue in the halls with a set of works from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.
