Architectures of Gestures: Javier Delafuente

Javier Delafuente presented his capsule collection, Couturisme, at OMODA Madrid es Moda, in the atrium of the Navy Headquarters, a large-scale space that establishes a dialogue between architecture and garment from the outset. The fashion collection reclaims couture as a totally contemporary language, offering a pause within fashion’s accelerated pace. The designer recovers the value of precise gestures, hand-drawn pattern making, and rigorous construction as a contemporary way of thinking about garments.

The collection stems from reflecting upon craftsmanship as a form of modernity. Delafuente revisits the codes inherent to couture: the garment’s internal architecture, volumes constructed from the pattern, and artisanal techniques, projecting them into the present with a lucid, contemporary perspective.

This approach translates into pieces conceived as body structures. The materials combine natural fabrics such as silk and wool with technical developments selected according to sustainable criteria. On this foundation, a balance between structural precision and fluidity is built.

The atrium of the Navy Headquarters amplifies this idea of construction. The scale of the space and its monumental architecture complement the garments, which are perceived almost as volumes in dialogue with the setting. The collection delivers a reminder that couture continues to evolve stitch by stitch.
