Designer Isabel Sanchís received the City of Valencia’s Cultural Merit Award. The Award was presented during a ceremony presided by the Mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, and it acknowledges careers linked to the city’s cultural sphere with local and global reach. Along with Isabel Sanchís, chef Ricard Camarena, actress Magüi Mira, and composer and pianist Ángeles López Artiga were also awarded.
Born in Valencia in 1956, Isabel Sanchís began her career in her teens with custom designs. She opened her first atelier before presenting her first collection in 1990. Since then, the company has experienced a sustained growth, being now present in over forty countries, with attendance at international trade fairs and private showrooms in cities such as Paris, where it presents its Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter collections.
The fashion brand has a flagship store in Valencia, a shop in Madrid, and an online channel, and maintains its production in its own atelier in Benaguasil. Under the creative direction of Isabel Sanchís and Paula Maiques, the collections are made with selected materials, exclusive embroidery, and precise pattern making, resulting in pieces that approach haute couture.
The presentation of the Cultural Merit Award was held at the Silk Exchange in Valencia, with the attendance of institutional representatives and members of the city’s cultural community.
