RTVE and Fundación Academia de la Moda Española (FAME) presented the first edition of the Premios Academia de la Moda Española, an annual event created to reward Spanish fashion talents and enhance their local and global recognition. They will be awarded in Madrid on June 13th. during a gala event that will be broadcast live by “La 2″ of RTVE and will reward, in its ten categories, the career, professional, creative and technical aspects of the Spanish fashion ecosystem.

HQ of RTVE “Torrespaña” hosted the award presentation of with María Eizaguirre, director of Communication and Participation of RTVE, Modesto Lomba, designer and president of the Fundación Academia de la Moda Española (FAME), and fashion designer Teresa Helbig.

María Eizaguirre highlighted that “these awards are, without a doubt, a commitment to talent, craftsmanship and Brand Spain. It is a dream come true… In some way we feel that we are making history, that there is a before and after. Spanish fashion is culture is art, a national heritage. And, in that sense, we have set ourselves as our main objective to dignify the work of thousands of people who every day, silently and almost invisibly, help create employment.

“These awards are the materialization of a wish and a demand from the sector that is finally becoming a reality. Their entire value chain , which is very extensive and diverse is represented in them. And, furthermore, it is the sector itself that votes and decides which are the best works. Two characteristics that make them unique,” stated Modesto Lomba, president of FAME. He also highlighted that “we are preparing a Spanish fashion gala with which we want to make history.”

“Throughout my career, I have been a faithful follower of the Goya’s, the Oscars, the Emmys, the MET Gala, the Golden Globes, the Pulitzer Awards… I have always thought about the importance of music, film, theater, journalism and now, finally, the fashion industries recognize the enormous work behind their sector. Today a dream comes true,” declared Teresa Helbig.

Model Nieves Álvarez, host of TV program ‘Flash Moda‘, will be the gala’s host, and RTVE journalists Elena S. Sánchez and Rafa Muñoz will present the special program prior to the red carpet. The gala will be broadcast live from 10:00 p.m. on “La 2”, TVE Internacional and streamlined on RTVE Play. The previous red carpet can be followed on RTVE Play from 8:30 p.m.

The Premios Academia de la Moda Española will have two settings full of symbolism: the National Library of Spain, with its emblematic staircase for the development of the red carpet, and the Fernán Gómez Teatro Centro Cultural de la Villa, the gala’s HQ, on loan thanks to the collaboration with Madrid Capital de Moda, an initiative of the government area of Economy, Innovation and Finance of Madrid City Council. In Plaza de Colón, 40 years ago, the first Madrid fashion catwalk took place.

Ten categories
The Premios Academia de la Moda Española will evaluate in ten categories the careers and other creative, business and technical aspects of the actors who make up the fashion universe of our country. Among them, Best Collection, Best Footwear, Jewelry and Accessories Collection, Best Presentation, Best Business Project and New Talent of the year. Also noteworthy is the Ambassador of Spanish Fashion award, the Promotion and Broadcasting of Spanish Fashion award which are aimed at those organizations, entities or institutions that have implemented a project to support or improve the situation of the cultural fashion industry, and the Sustainability, Innovation and High Craftsmanship applied to fashion, focused on ideas that have especially opted for one of these three fields. Finally, the Best International Collection will be chosen and the FAME Board of Trustees will award the Honor Award to a person or firm, paying tribute to their career.

Candidacies and votes
The deadline for submitting candidatures began on Friday, May 17th at 9:00 a.m. and ends on May 31st, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Those interested in participating can download the rules and register through the following online form.
The nominees will be announced starting June 6 and will be designated, like the winners, by vote of the Fundación Academia de la Moda Española, made up of 129 Founding Academics, paying tribute to the legacy of the great master Cristóbal Balenciaga, who in 2024 would have reached the age of 129 years.

Spanish fashion, a cultural and creative industry
RTVE has joined this initiative through which FAME’s first strategic axis is articulated: the promotion of Spanish fashion and its local and global recognition. Awards designed to place fashion within our society as a cultural and creative industry that must be supported, and which is without a doubt one of the best ambassadors of Brand Spain. Likewise, its objective is to give visibility to and dignify all the trades that make up the extensive fashion value chain.

Created in 2020, the Fundación Academia de la Moda Española is a non-profit organization promoted by the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME) to ensure the recognition, promotion and future development of Spanish fashion. The granting of these annual awards is one of FAME’s priority objectives in the first phase of its journey.
