Second meeting of the Permanent Author Fashion Working Table, and a day of round tables about the sector

12/12/2024

Carmen Páez, Undersecretary of Culture of the Ministry of Culture, chaired at the Museo del Traje in Madrid this afternoon the second meeting of the Author Fashion Permanent Working Table. A meeting that was attended by cultural representatives from the different autonomous communities and other key industry entities, such as the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), ICEX or the School of Industrial Organization (EOI).

“We are satisfied with the meeting, and with the Ministry of Culture’s willingness to specify and implement a series of measures that unite the objectives and strategies of the entire author fashion ecosystem agents. We also value very positively the deadlines proposed, which are very reasonable and will allow us to implement the changes within our 2025 strategy,” states Héctor Jareño, founder of the firm Reliquiae, leather goods director of Pertegaz and member of the ACME’s board of directors.

The presentation by ACME of the data and the conclusions of the Study on Author Fashion in Spain; International frameworks and strategic proposals, structured the agenda, these being a commission from the Ministry of Culture to the Association after the first meeting held in 2021 in Toledo where the Permanent Working Group was created. An important request from the sector that ACME transferred to the Ministry in 2020. The study enjoyed the participation of cultural consultant Jorge Fernández León; Sergio Álvarez, director of the Fundación Academia de la Moda Española (FAME); Ainhoa García Echaniz, Chief Studio & Merchandising Officer of Rabanne, and Pepa Bueno, executive director of ACME.

Among the Study’s different conclusions, which versus our own business model with that of the French, Italian and English, is the confirmation that tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary design stand out as the elements that make-up Spanish fashion’s identity. An extensive analysis that nevertheless places Spanish fashion as the great unknown, in our own country as well as abroad, and reaffirms the urgency of having a Strategic Plan for Author Fashion to establish actions that improve the competitiveness and the capacity to generate value in the sector. A long-awaited achievement that is getting closer after the second day of round tables.

The development of this plan has always been the main purpose for promoting the constitution of the Working Table. A chartered course to promote talent, financing, specialised training, internationalisation, the protection of high-end craftsmanship and the promotion of alliances under common objectives and regulations. An imperative requirement to protect this creative industry that contributes to our cultural and economic wealth, and to building brand Spain.

“The Strategic Plan for author fashion, which we hope will see the light of day in 2025, must be the first step in a transition, a new idea of Spanish fashion, related to the French or Italian models, supported by values such as creativity and quality, with a growing respect for the production process, for local, rigorous and long-lasting craftsmanship. A future of sustainable fashion, a magnet for talent. A creative industry that contributes to the image we have of ourselves and that represents the times we live in. Author fashion can represent the triumph of courage at the heart of a sector undergoing profound changes,” explained Héctor Jareño during his speech.
