Paula Cánovas, a new member of ACME

04/05/2023

Designer Paula Cánovas del Vas becomes a member of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME) – a professional association that brings together the most prominent designer fashion brands in Spain.

Said young creator joins ACME after the agreement reached in 2014 between Vogue Spain and ACME whereby the winners of the Vogue Fashion Fund Award, of which Paula Cánovas del Vas was the winner in 2022, become direct members of this professional fashion designer’s Association. Until 2022 the Vogue Fashion Fund award was known as Vogue Who’s On Next.

Vogue Fashion Fund has held 11 editions and is organized annually by the iconic fashion magazine, always committed to excellence and innovation, to discover and reveal the designer of the year. Paula Cánovas del Vas joins other winners of the prestigious fashion award who are already members of the Association, such as Dominnico (2021), Mans (2020), Carlota Barrera (2019), Palomo Spain (2018) or Leandro Cano (2017).

“I feel very honoured to belong to ACME. Being part of this innovative and creative community is an acknowledgement of the work that my team and I have done so far. I do hope that together we can broadcast and strengthen the Spanish creators community”, affirms the fashion designer.

Pepa Bueno, Executive Director of ACME comments: “Paula is a visionary creator who will bring a powerful energy to the Association. Furthermore, her firm has a very consistent international presence that demonstrates the relevance of made in Spain fashion design. ”

Paula Cánovas del Vas was born in Murcia and currently lives in Paris. She founded her eponymous fashion brand in 2018 after graduating from the prestigious Central Saint Martins College, thanks to the support of a scholarship awarded by Stella McCartney. Previous to establishing her fashion brand she has worked with designer John Galliano and as a creative consultant for Kanye West, as well as renowned fashion firms Maison Margiela and Gucci. The fashion brand is currently present in 30 points of sale around the world, including MAXFIELD (Los Angeles), BROWNS (London), SSENSE, GR8 (Tokyo), INTERNATIONAL GALLERY BEAMS (Tokyo) and MACHINE-A (London and Shanghai).

Her eye-catching collections, made mainly from recycled materials, are developed around a rich range of references, patterns, shapes and fabrics. Her characteristic accessories specially stand out, such as the “Diablo” shoes, which she presented in London as part of her first collection, FW2018.

Paula Cánovas del Vas joined Paris Fashion Week in September 2022. Her SS23 collection was described by a The New York Times edit as a projection of one of the most prominent emerging designers. Her work has appeared in international publications such as Vogue, Dazed or i-D, and she has collaborated in an interdisciplinary manner with numerous artists, advocating for innovative means to showcase their creative proposals, such as her artistic installation carried out at Le Palais de Tokio in Paris or “See, Saw, Seen” her virtual reality set-up conceived for London Fashion Week 2019. In 2022, in addition to receiving the Vogue Fashion Fund Award, she was a runner-up of the LVMH Award.
