Gran Canaria Moda Cálida brings Maison Mesa and Isabel Sanchís savoire faire to the Island

From April 25th and 26th, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the Moda Cálida program and the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), organised new training sessions at the Gran Canaria School of Art and Design. Aimed at the island's fashion teachers and students, on this occasion, the central theme is to bring the work of Maison Mesa and Isabel Sanchís closer. These two great fashion firms explain the secret behind their success in different workshops and talks given by the designers themselves.

The sessions began on Thursday morning, April 25th, with a Master Class given by Juan Carlos Mesa, creative director of Maison Mesa. The workshop focused on two fields in which Mesa is a great expert: the moulage technique and the synergies between art and fashion. On Friday, April 26th, it was Isabel Sanchís' turn to carry out her workshop dedicated to volumes and prints, two of her signature hallmarks. On the other hand, on the afternoon of Thursday 25th, both fashion firms gave talks in which they reviewed their careers and brand's DNA.

Maison Mesa and Isabel Sanchís, the fashion brands chosen as protagonists of the training centres's course, present their collections at Madrid Fashion Week and have an established local and global track record. Juan Carlos Mesa has over 30 years experience in fashion design and styling. After his time at Angel Schlesser, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Jesús del Pozo or Cortefiel, he runs his own couture house since 2017, Maison Mesa. A key name in Spanish slow fashion, Mesa has received numerous awards and has developed multiple and varied creative projects, such as industrial and artistic products, stage sets, advertising campaigns and exhibitions.

On the other hand, Isabel Sanchís, winner of the L'Oréal Paris Award for the Best Collection at MBFWM (February 2023), is present in over 40 countries after more than two decades in the fashion sector. Her proposals, full of fantasy, elegance and sophistication, adapt to every type of woman. Garments made with the best materials, delicate embroidery and perfect patterns magnify their femininity.

This activity is integrated within the actions that Gran Canaria Moda Cálida is designing together with ACME to promote the training and council of the future generations that will be part of the island's textile culture. Members of the Association since 2018, both entities advocate education as a priority and necessary strategy to maintain the values demanded by the fashion industry, as well as ensuring that young talents become trail blazers of change.
