Málaga de Moda and ACME sign an agreement to promote the province’s craftsmanship

19/02/2024

During the first day of MBFWM, ACME and Málaga de Moda formalized an agreement to carry out a market study aimed at analyzing and understanding the artisans and the apparel’s situation in the province of Málaga so that they can adhere to the brand of Malaga Provincial Council that protects the province’s textile sector, a territory with a rich artisan tradition. The report’s objective is to continue identifying the sector’s opportunities and challenges.

Esperanza González, deputy for Sustainable Economic Development of the Malaga Provincial Council and head of Málaga de Moda, Modesto Lomba, president of ACME, and Pepa Bueno, executive director of ACME, were in charge of signing the collaboration.

González has stressed “the importance of giving visibility to the craftsmanship that exists in the province, specifically that which is linked to fashion, so that designers can count on these creators when developing their collections.”

Modesto Lomba wanted to highlight that “having a mapping of artisans in the province of Malaga is the best tool or even the best gift that can be given to fashion designers. What is sometimes most difficult for you, as a creator, is to locate the artisan’s workshop who can add the maximum value to a garment. Hopefully it can be done in other territories or even create a national updated book.”

The results of the study, carried out in collaboration with Tic Innova Consulting, will reveal the great diversity and richness of artisanal fashion and the clothing workshop industry in the 103 municipalities of Malaga, identifying the various traditional techniques that have been transmitted from generation to generation. In short, a complete mapping of embroiderers, weavers, leather goods, bobbin lace, natural dyes, sewing and dressmaking, pattern makers and mannequin modelling that will allow us to observe how traditions are kept alive and how artisans continue to innovate and adapt to current times. It will also monitor the renewal, professionalization and industrialization carried out by the workshops.

This research work will also demonstrate the importance of promoting and preserving these ancestral skills and promoting the growth of clothing workshops as a strategy to ensure their significant impact on the economy and their essential role in the conservation of the province of Malaga’s cultural identity.

ACME, a reference in the defence, support and projection of Spanish designer fashion, will also contribute its experience and vision to Málaga de Moda, a brand of the Málaga Provincial Council created in 2016 to represent and promote Málaga fashion companies and provide them with visibility within and abroad Spain.
