Maison Mesa presents at Málaga Automobile and Fashion Museum its first Retrospective Exhibit

04/09/2026

Maison Mesa inaugurated on September 3rd at Málaga Automobile and Fashion Museum (MAM)Maison Mesa: Emotional Fashion”, its first retrospective exhibition, which will run until November 15th, and coincides with the brand’s tenth anniversary as well as Mesa’s thirty years as a fashion designer. It explores his creative universe from a non-chronological perspective, organized around emotion as the starting point for each collection.

The exhibit brings together pieces from different stages of the brand’s history, drawing on references that have fed his design language: figures such as Mae West, Blade Runner’s world, and artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jeff Koons. Among the collections represented are ‘I Am No Angel’, ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’, ‘The Passion of Lovers’, and ‘Das Cabinet’.

One section features Maison Mesa garments altered by artists Jesús Arrúe, Lara Padilla, and Juan Antonio Tinte, working on pieces originally created as performing garments and providing a new artistic interpretation.

The exhibition also showcases the work of a network of collaborators with whom the fashion brand produces a part of its universe: El Tío Claus’s knitwear and gourmet products, Casteller’s espadrilles, Perssam’s knitwear, Pons Quintana’s braided leather sandals, Anabella Boffa’s handbags, Lisi Fracchia’s jewelry, and Susana Martín’s glass pieces. The project is supported by Málaga City Council.

As part of the tour, visitors can view the Maison Mesa documentary, directed by Miguel Thevirum, which reveals the atelier’s working process and the preparations behind the brand’s fashion shows.

The firm also emphasizes its connection to the museum itself: “For Maison Mesa, MAM is also an emotional museum, from its conception by João Magalhães to the management of its current two directors, Elvira Carrera and Mar González,” they state.

“Holding our first retrospective exhibition is a dream come true, ten years since the creation of our brand and more than thirty years of Mesa as a designer in this industry,” its founders point out.
