On October 2nd, Palmas presented “Silencio” on the third and final day of the twelfth edition of Colección Bridal; Gran Canaria Moda Cálida’s bridal and formalwear runway event, held from September 30th to October 2nd at the Hotel Santa Catalina in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Pedro Palmas’s collection is rooted in sculptural silhouettes, treating each garment as a work of art.
The title sets the tone: these are garments that, in the designer’s words, “do not speak, do not shout.” A whispered language of almost imperceptible timelessness, a quality Palmas associates with designer fashion, where modernity, architecture, design, and art converge. This sense of restraint is achieved through fabrics with substance and drape, such as mikado, velvet, silk, and vegan leather.
The creative process defines the shape: Pedro Palmas does not sketch his collections; reserving paper designs for his private clients, working instead directly on the mannequin. He begins with a single creation or line, “and from there the rest is called out.” Nor does he speak of “my” pieces, but rather “the” pieces, understanding that they belong to everyone from the moment they are created.
Architecture is a constant theme in the firm’s second phase. Palmas was founded in 1989 as a creative studio specializing in women’s ready-to-wear, bridal, and haute couture, closing in 2004, after presenting its final collection at Gran Canaria Moda Cálida. In 2015 it returned under its founder’s direction, incorporating architectural elements into the designs. Some elements of the “Silencio” collection were also showcased in Madrid during the *Madrid es Moda* event.
