The big department stores for the big (TV) emotions reaches the finale. A goodbye in which the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España, through MADRID ES MODA, has also been a protagonist thanks to the Velvet Design Competition. The three winners have seen their models become a reality and will be part of one of the final takes of the Antena3 TV series: the presentation of the first prêt-à-porter collection by Velvet Galleries.
After an overwhelming success of participation (more than 400 proposals), 6 finalist designs were selected which were made in the atelier Al Dedal with fabrics by Gratacós, National Fashion Award of 2015. A pledge on Made in Spain apparel applauded by Modesto Lomba , designer and President of ACME and one of the jurors of this competition along with his colleague Hannibal Laguna: "In Spain we enjoy highly regarded know-how in fashion and couture and this is the best situation to develop this project."
Of these six designs three winners were awarded, young promises Rebeca Jover, Tatiana López and Juan José Gragera. All of them sported the label Made in Spain, belonging to the labelling campaign MÑ ModaEspaña, an initiative that arose with the purpose of allowing consumers to clearly and concisely identify Spanish fashion products.
Jover is a student of Fine Arts in Alcoy her design is inspired by the character of Ana Rivera (Paula Echevarría) "and in the logo of the TV series, which also appears often as an architectural element ... It has been amazing to see it come true”. Tatiana López, a design student from La Coruña has been more inspired by the French chic of Adele Lavigne (Paula Prendes), and hopes "this will be the beginning of much more." On the other hand, designer from Extremadura Juan José Graguera had in his mind the blonde exuberance of Patricia Márquez (Miriam Giovanelli) when interpreting his design for the competition.
All of them have had to make a trip in time in search for inspiration in yesterday’s fashions: "Retro has always been has good resources for fashion" says Lomba, "looking back almost to take impulse and tell something new is a great exercise." A task underlined by Gustavo Torres, textile consultant of Gratacós, concerned with keeping the fabrics used on these models with the finishings of the sixties, the time when the Velvet series is set, "although the materials are not the same. "
