Pedro del Hierro, under the creative direction of Nacho Aguayo and Álex Miralles, presented “The Great Metropolis” collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid. The show, held at the Palacio de Cristal de Cibeles, was a contemporary tribute to the city as an inexhaustible background for nightlife, unexpected encounters, and urban glamour.
The collection draws inspiration from the vibrant pulse of a city that never sleeps: the buzz of outdoor terraces in summer, the conversations that continue until dawn… In this vision, the creative directors have incorporated artistic references such as the color fields of Mark Rothko, the graphic compositions of Sho Shibuya, and Olafur Eliasson’s solar installation at the Tate Modern. The color palette ranges from intense reds, burgundies, fiery oranges, and amethysts, contrasting with deep blacks, pure whites, and a refreshing duck-egg blue.
The women’s line, designed by Nacho Aguayo, features ethereal, flowing long dresses, reimagined tuxedos, and silks with subtle transparencies that evoke the elegant night time atmosphere of the city. Each garment appears destined for a special occasion, from an opera to a premiere in the heart of the city. Álex Miralles, on the other hand, presents a relaxed yet sophisticated menswear collection with linen knits, lightweight jackets, summer coats, and reinvented tuxedos featuring shimmering fabrics and sequins that echo elements from the women’s collection.
Both designers blend styles and share materials to create a cohesive and sensual collection, dressing women and men as protagonists of a vibrant, cultural metropolis. “The Great Metropolis” thus emerges as a stylish portrait of contemporary life, expressed through fashion.
