Fashion and Art merge in Madrid es Moda

28/01/2020

The capital’s city museums open their doors to fashion during the days in which Madrid es Moda, the Xth Urban Fashion Festival takes place with the aim of making known to art and fashion lovers the close and long standing connection between both disciplines. Their halls are filled with the best Spanish design, the exhibitions and guided tours have fashion as the guiding thread, and workshops, where creativity is featured, are held for children and adults.

During this edition, the Museo del Traje proposes several guided visits to the temporary exhibition “Extra Fashion! The birth of the fashion press in Spain ”, on January 30th at 1:00 p.m., February 1st at 12:30 p.m. and February 6th at 1:00 p.m. This exhibition is a journey through time through fashion magazines: from Louis XIV’s France, with the birth of the luxury industry, until the end of the 19th century, with the arrival and development of the fashion press in Spain. Fashion figurines, costumes and other pieces from the Museum’s collection make up this exhibition along with funds from other public institutions and private collections. Prior reservation is required.

“Dressing the future.” What clothes will we wear? This is the theme chosen for the Lazaro Galdiano Museum’s visit-workshop, specifically aimed at young people aged 12 to 17, which will take place on February 1st at 11:00 a.m. On this day you will be able to design suits and dresses for the citizens of the future thinking about what the climatic and environmental conditions of the next decades will be. Also, a tour of the museum will be made to learn about the garments and fashions of the past, the tastes and trends of previous centuries through the Museum’s collections of paintings, jewels and textiles. Prior registration is also required in the email educacion@museolazarogaldiano.es and the ticket price is €7.

In the same Lázaro Galdiano, music takes on special prominence in the guided tour “Music and Fashion” that can be enjoyed on January 29th and February 1st at 12:30 p.m. at no additional cost at the entrance of the museum. Inseparable companions, music and fashion, have complemented each other perfectly for centuries. Now, through paintings, prints, photographs and small auditions, one can discover how were the refined XVI century courtesan parties as well as the opulent and corseted balls of Madrid’s early XX century high society.

Accessories are so important in our daily lives that they are a reflection of who we are and the society in which we live. Thanks to the workshop “I can’t live without you. The wonderful history of the accessories of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries ”, organized by the National Museum of Decorative Arts on Saturday February 8th in two shifts, at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., we will discover what was hidden in the handbag of a lady of this era, or in the pocket of a gentleman. Prior registration is required on the phone 91 050 57 55. You can also visit for free, in the aforementioned museum, the “IV Exhibition of Contemporary Goldsmiths”, a set of pieces of jewellery that brings together the productions of 39 designers from 21 countries. This exhibition is a great opportunity to get to know first hand the character of the creation of a current jewel and the work of the contemporary goldsmith. From February 7th to March 29th on the 4th floor.

The National Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza invites us, with the Art Meets Fashion activity, to discover in the village’s fashion brands how paintings by great masters influence the collections of the most relevant fashion designers and contemporary brands. Fabrics, textures and colours have been and will be fashion’s real protagonists. In this edition, two basic experiences exclusive packages for one person and a companion will be raffled. The experience includes entrance fee, audio guide for the fashion tour and transfer to Las Rozas Village in their Shopping Express as well as a welcome by the concierge as a start to your shopping day. Winners can enjoy this experience whenever they want, throughout the year 2020.

Finally, the Cerralbo Museum hosts the exhibition “Gala dinner at the Cerralbo Palace” with spectacular creations by Duyos, Claro FernandoHannibal LagunaJuana Martin and Roberto Verino, which you can visit until February 9th. Continue reading about this exhibit here.
