Beatriz Peñalver weaves one hundred meters of solidarity fashion for Venezuela. Ayuda en Acción and ACME presented 100 Meters of Solidarity Fashion for Venezuela at OMODA Madrid es Moda, an installation created live under the creative direction of Beatriz Peñalver. The piece combines textile fragments donated by fashion designers and brands from the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME) to raise awareness regarding the humanitarian emergency in Venezuela following last June’s earthquakes. The event was held at the Galileo Cultural Center.
The project poses a simple question: can fashion become a tool for aid? The response is constructed from fragments of fabrics, prints, embroideries, and textile interventions, contributed by Ana Locking, BIMANI, Daniel Chong, De flores y Floreros, Dolores Cortés, Dominnico, DUYOS, ERROZ, Felix Ramiro, García Madrid, Javier Delafuente, Lola Casademunt, MAISON MESA, Mané Mané, María Lafuente, Mariano Moreno, and Miguel Marinero, among other ACME associates. Each contribution arrives separately and is integrated into a single, 100-meter piece, in a process that functions as a metaphor for reconstruction: even when something breaks, it is possible to build something new from its pieces.
The final piece is created and completed live, assembled by Beatriz Peñalver from each brand’s contributions. The format dispenses with the runway show: the construction takes place in real time, before the audience at the Galileo Cultural Center. During the presentation and subsequent exhibition of the piece, the public may support Ayuda en Acción by making donations to families affected by the emergency in Venezuela.
The initiative doesn’t end on this day: the piece remains on display and open for donations, continuing to generate aid beyond September 8th.
