Agatha Ruiz de la Prada presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid her Spring/Summer 2027 collection. Volume and movement define the designs, with color acting as a constant theme. The collection revives the “bombacho” or barrel trouser – a silhouette the designer made her own in the 1980s.
Volume and movement live at the heart of the collection. Agatha Ruiz de la Prada applies the same expansion logic to every garment: petals transform into ribbons, spheres lose their closed shape to appear deflated, and multicolored dresses combine petal motifs with dinosaur-like silhouettes. The prints’ painted strokes also take on movement, shifting into various positions.
Dresses scale up to become 5XL and maxi-tees are crafted from hand-dyed linen, cotton, and silk organza, featuring loose, comfortable shapes. Halter necklines, polka dots, checks, and multicolored stripes characterize the rest of the pieces. Some check patterns detach from the garment to form checkerboard motifs that move with the body. Artisanal patchwork, textile appliqués, layering, and hand-finished details—such as visible edges and modular pieces—round out a collection defined by soft, unstructured volumes.
The barrel trouser—a silhouette the firm introduced in the 1980s—serves as the starting point for the sense of volume that runs throughout the entire collection.
