IVth Edition of the Premios Nacionales de la Moda

17/07/2017

ACME associated brands: Dolores Cortés, García Madrid, Moisés Nieto and Purificación García have been awarded during the IVth edition of the national fashion awards, Premios Nacionales de la Moda, granted each year by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The ceremony of delivery, held in the Museo del Traje, was presided by H.M. The Queen, Doña Letizia.

Dolores Cortés received the award in the category of National Award to SMEs in the Industry of the Fashion Sector. Dolores Font Cortés, S.A. was established in 1980, but the creation of this brand from Castellón was produced over 60 years ago when Dolores Cortés, mother of the current brand’s manager, decided to innovate swimwear fashion creating an elastic fabric. This family-owned and avant-garde company exports 25% of its production. The creations, always innovative, are present in international markets like Italy, Portugal, France, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Germany, Lebanon or Japan, as well as in the most prestigious fashion shows of the sector.

García Madrid has received the National Award for Entrepreneurship in the Fashion Industry. The signature label, led by Manuel García, was established in 2006 and his collections combine the tradition of classic tailoring with the most contemporary design, focusing on responsible production located exclusively in European Union countries. García Madrid distributes his creations in the flagship stores of Madrid and Santiago of Chile as well as from its own online store. The brand’s creative universe begins to expand into other areas, being the winning company of the contest to redesign the merchandising products of the National Ballet of Spain.

The National Prize for Fashion Designer in the category of Career Trajectory has befallen one of the great names in our fashion, Purificación García, who was a finalist of this award along with Pili Carrera and Helena Rohner. The Galician designer spent much of her childhood and youth in Montevideo, where she began her career in the fashion world. After working in Canada and New York, she returned to Spain in 1982 and opened her first store in Barcelona. In 1998 she signed an agreement with Textil Lonia, a company with which she has since worked on the design, manufacture and distribution of the lines for men’s, women’s and accessories fashion. Currently, Purificación García has sales outlets in 18 countries around the world.

The New Value award has finally befallen upon Moisés Nieto, who was a finalist in this category alongside Ulises Mérida and Oteyza. Nieto founded his own brand in 2011 and fuses craftsmanship with the most avant-garde design and youth culture, betting firmly on Made in Spain and sustainability. This award is another milestone in the enviable track record of the designer from Jaén: Vogue Italia’s My Own Show in 2011, L’Oreal Paris to the best EGO collection in 2012, Mango Fashion Awards finalist in 2013 and Vogue winner Who’s on Next In 2016, among others, confirm Moisés Nieto as one of the great promises of Spanish fashion.

The jury, chaired by Roberto Torretta, has also recognized the work of other companies in the sector such as Textil Santanderina, National Prize for Fashion Industries; EFE Estilo, the division dedicated to fashion and lifestyle of EFE Agency, which has won the National Award for Fashion Communication; UPM Superior Fashion Design Centre in Madrid, the National Academy Award, and the Puig group, which has been awarded the Honorific Award for the Large Company in this IVth edition of the Premios Nacionales de la Moda.
