“Fashion shows: the theatre of fashion”

10/09/2014

Madrid becomes twice a year the great stage of national fashion during its own fashion week, housing the fashion shows of the leading Spanish designers.

The exhibition “ Fashion shows: the theatre of fashion “, organized by the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), concentrates in Conde Duque a selection of the fall / winter 2014-2015 collections that 28 of the top fashion brands in the country presented on the runway. Fashion originates in small workshops; it is showcased for the first time to the professionals in the sector in a format highly related to entertainment through the idealized body of the models and finds its purpose and its best display on the street. Hence the pieces, which are protagonist of this exhibit, are those proposed by these Spanish designers to dress a winter about to begin.

The creator’s work goes beyond the design of a garment and the staging of his creations becomes an essential element every season. The fashion show blends various forms of expression and creativity. Scenery, music, hairdressing, makeup and design come together to convey a common idea: bring to the public the creative universe of the designer.

With nearly 30 years of history, the Madrid fashion week is renewed edition after edition showcasing the work of fashion labels very different from one another but with the common goal of their commitment to Madrid as the capital of fashion in Spain.

The colourful explosion of the fashion shows by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada contrasted with the minimalism of Roberto Torretta and Angel Schlesser. The vanguard of Amaya Arzuaga and Davidelfín admixed with the know how of pioneering brands of the fashion week such as Francis Montesinos, Devota & Lomba and Roberto Verino, while new names like Moses Nieto, Juan Vidal and Maria Barros provide an appealing blend of modernity and classicism to the national fashion.

Surrounded by stage lights, public and flashes, the models represent on the runway a different role in each show. From the candidness of the woman by Duyos and Ailanto, to the powerfulness by Nicolas Vaudelet, Juanjo Oliva and Ana Locking; the glamour of Hannibal Laguna and Ion Fiz; the delicate couture work by Teresa Helbig, Jorge Vazquez and Miguel Palacio, or the racial trace in the designs by Victorio & Lucchino and Juana Martín.

Every season we see the staging of high lingerie and corsetry brands such as Andres Sarda and Maya Hansen, while furriery takes its place on the runway led by the designs of Miguel Marinero or the innovative menswear proposals of Etxeberria and García Madrid that overstep our frontiers.

The exhibit “Fashion shows: the theatre of fashion“, which may be visited from the 10th to the 20th of September, is framed within the cycle of activities “Madrid is Fashion in Conde Duque”, organized by the City of Madrid and Madrid Destino to bring the fashion week to the centre of the city in an explicit commitment towards fashion as one of the leading tourist attractions, economic and cultural of the capital.
