The Cordoba-born fashion designer Juana Martín received the 2024 Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts at a ceremony held in the Teatro de Rojas in Toledo, presided over by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. The fashion designer, a member of the Board of Directors of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), was among the 38 award recipients honored by the Ministry of Culture this year, alongside prominent figures in music, film, literature, theater, and the visual arts. Also present at the event were the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun; the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page; and the Mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez.
Juana Martín received the medal at a particularly significant moment in her career, having also received the 2025 National Fashion Design Award, granted by the Ministry of Culture.
The Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts recognizes individuals and organizations that have distinguished themselves in the field of artistic and cultural creation or in the promotion, development, and broadcasting of art and culture. In the case of Juana Martín, the distinction is added to a career linked to Córdoba, to her atelier work, and to her sustained presence in international haute couture.
In 2022, the fashion designer became the first Spanish woman to present a collection at Paris Haute Couture Week. Since then, her work has maintained a steady presence on the Parisian calendar, with collections constructed upon the silhouette, with craftsmanship and Andalusian textile heritage.
