Málaga, Fashion´s new epicenter

The Málaga Automobile and Fashion Museum hosted the 4th edition of the MAM Fashion Forum on April 25th, an event that has quickly become a benchmark in the Spanish fashion calendar. Professionals, emerging designers, students, and fashion lovers gathered in the unique setting, reaffirming Málaga's role as a creative and innovative hub in southern Spain.

The event featured prominent names such as María Escoté, Miguel Becer, Leticia García, Rafa Rodríguez, Gerard Estadella, Eazyboy, Carla Paucar, Luis de Javier, and Álex de la Croix. Throughout the day, key topics were addressed such as identity in design, streetwear, sustainability within the industry, fashion photography, and the role of social media in broadcasting trends. The panels were moderated by Begoña Pascual, Juan José Jaimes, and Álvaro Calafat.

During her presentation, María Escoté reflected on the changes in the fashion industry: “Fashion is looking for new ways to sell. Fashion has always been about society. I do think that what is driving us crazy is the way we sell: suddenly they're hiring singers instead of designers for big brands; now there are brands that claim to be sustainable to sell more.” Regarding sustainability, the fashion designer added: “We are truly sustainable because we are small companies with few workers, and we make things in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, in small workshops. I don't understand fashion without awareness and recycling.”

On the other hand, Miguel Becer, founder of the brand ManéMané, shared his creative vision and the role of everyday life in his design process: “I find in the street’s reality, in the way a skirt or a dress moves, formulas that I try to bring to my collections, which is very cool. I also learn a lot from my students, I love reading about what they wear and I also aim to translate all this in my collections.”

The various roundtables and talks highlighted the importance of maintaining a personal vision within a globalised context while acknowledging fashion as a social expression language. Attendees also enjoyed networking opportunities that fostered the exchange of ideas and the promotion of new synergies within the industry.

MAM Fashion Forum, which is organised by the Automobile and Fashion Museum headed by directors Elvira Carrera and Mar González, together with the support of institutions such as Málaga de Moda, the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), Málaga City Council, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and Malaga’s Provincial Council, among others, continues to consolidate itself as a key platform for dialogue and collaboration between generations of designers while advancing Málaga as a benchmark for contemporary, sustainable, and inclusive fashion.

In the words of Elvira Carrera and Mar González, co-directors of MAM: “The Museum deserves to be recognised beyond its borders; we have been working for years to position it as a meeting point for creativity, design, and innovation from the South of Spain.”
