A sector that surpasses the threshold

Madrid’s Regional Government Ministry of Economy headquarters hosted this morning the presentation of the report “Spanish Fashion Design, in Numbers,” promoted by ACME, which places author designers’ turnover above one billion euros for the first time. The sector closed 2024 with 1.005 billion euros and a growth of 3.9%, a record high that reflects a consolidated recovery as well as the boost from international markets and online channels.

The event, moderated by Pepa Bueno, brought together institutional representatives, designers, and key players in the Spanish fashion ecosystem. Mariano de Paco highlighted the role of public-private collaboration and strategic planning in supporting the sector’s progress, while Modesto Lomba emphasized the importance of sustaining that which has been built with imagination, rigor, and respect for the craft. The presence of Juan Duyos, ACME’s new president, as well as designers, cultural institutions, trade fair teams, and fashion schools, reinforced the event’s diverse perspective.

The report’s data points to a constant transformation. E-commerce is growing by 8.6% and now represents 19.2% of turnover, with Amazon as a key technology partner due to its investment in digitalization and the reduction of returns. International sales reached €380 million, accounting for 37.8% of total sales—the best figure in the historical series. Production, however, declined by 2.9%, while the distribution network exceeds 26,000 points of sale and continues to expand.

The report also incorporates the sector’s future outlook: alliances between companies, the strengthening of “made in Spain,” and the advancement of sustainable fashion are emerging as key trends. Internationalization is shaping up to be the most immediate challenge, along with access to financing, distribution channels, and brand building. In closing, Pepa Bueno reiterated that Spanish author fashion has always operated under the principles we now associate with sustainability: measured production, proximity, and materials with history. This approach sustains the sector while charting new horizons.
