The Gran Canaria Moda Cálida program continues its 2025/2026 training cycle with a workshop focused on sleeve pattern making, led by fashion designer Javier Martín Galán at the Gran Canaria School of Art and Design. The training, aimed at fashion educators, took place over two days, November 3rd and 4th.
The workshop addressed the sleeve as a structural element in the construction of volume and silhouette within haute couture. Using a methodology of working flat on the table as well as on a mannequin, participants worked on pattern-making and moulage techniques applied to both tailored jacket sleeves and Japanese sleeve bases for flowing garments.
The approach is based on a technical foundation linked to the tradition of the couture atelier, with direct references to the study of volume developed by the Balenciaga school. Practical work structured the session’s rhythm, combining constructive analysis as well as formal experimentation.
The activity is part of the training program promoted by Gran Canaria Island’s Council to bring the fashion trades closer to the academic field while updating technical teaching from professional practice.
