The 2025/2026 Gran Canaria Moda Cálida training program continues with a handcrafted shoemaking workshop led by master shoemaker, and founder of Tamarcos, José Manuel Rodríguez. The training is aimed at teachers from IES La Minilla and is a part of the program promoted by Gran Canaria Island’s Council in collaboration with the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España.
The workshop took place between October 13th and 17th in the school’s classroom-workshop, where teachers worked preparing and assembling the pieces that make up the shoe’s upper part. The training concluded on November 4th at Tamarcos’ workshop with a practical session dedicated to using specialized machinery in assembly and final finishes.
Throughout the course, Rodríguez guides the group in selecting materials, using specific tools, and the different assembly phases of the shoemaking trade. The approach is practical and draws upon the artisan’s accumulated experience over three decades of professional experience.
This initiative is a part of the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida training program, which focuses on the direct transfer of knowledge between working professionals and the educational sector. The 2025/2026 cycle continues with new sessions planned for the coming weeks.
