Agatha Ruiz de la Prada participates in We Wear Culture

13/06/2017

The Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Foundation participates in the We Wear Culture project of Google Arts & Culture, a cultural platform for which more than 30,000 garments from 180 institutions around the world have been digitized. The initiative allows for free 450 virtual exhibits and explores 3,000 years of fashion history, from the old silk route to British punk and all the stories that hide behind the garments we wear today.

Simultaneous events around the world have marked the global inauguration of We Wear Culture, showing that fashion is an essential part of our culture. This project has been carried out with the collaboration of international reference museums such as the Met Costume Institute in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Kyoto Costume Institute in Japan, among others. Spain is represented by the participation of the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, the Museo del Traje CIPE in Madrid, the Museu del Disseny of Barcelona, the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs of Seville and the Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Foundation.

This Foundation, created in 2011 due to the 30th anniversary of the signature label, aims to act as a repository for the archives of the artistic, cultural and intellectual work of designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. More than 3,000 dresses, 700 drawings, 300 posters and innumerable ‘agathized’ objects constitute one of the largest collections of a contemporary fashion designer. Although the Foundation has travelled the world with exhibitions from Venice, São Paolo, Colombo or New Delhi, until now these archives have been a hidden treasure. Today, thanks to the collaboration of Google Arts & Culture, the Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Foundation opens its doors to the public, allowing access for the first time to a wide range of her work.[:]
