LUX: Andalusian fashion illuminates contemporary culture

The Royal Artillery Factory hosts “LUX: Andalusian Fashion in the Culture of the 21st Century“, an exhibit that opened on October 28th. The exhibition brings together nineteen designers who are redefining southern Spain’s identity through the art of dress.

The exhibition, promoted by the Council of Culture and Sport of Andalusia’s Regional Government, and curated by Raúl Romero, celebrates the rise of Andalusian author fashion as a territory of creation and living heritage. Each designer—including ACME’s associates: Beatriz Peñalver, Fernando Claro, Juana Martín, Leandro Cano, Mans Concept, Moisés Nieto, Palomo Spain, Pilar Dalbat, and Roberto Diz—presented original pieces inspired by the landscapes, literature, and traditions of the eight Andalusian provinces.

In their fashion proposals, one can recognize the echoes of Bécquer in the organza drapes, in the embroidery the scent of Córdoba in May, and Bernarda Alba in the solemnity of clean lines. Olive groves, water carriers as well as flower-filled balconies, become metaphors for a land where light and craftsmanship intertwine.

The exhibit is part of the first regional program to promote and broadcast Andalusian fashion, a plan that champions its status in the arts and culture, as well as an economic engine that generates more than 9,000 jobs and €540 million in revenue. “Fashion is culture,” emphasized Regional Councillor Patricia del Pozo when presenting the initiative, “because it translates our identity into form, texture, and emotion.”

LUX is ultimately, a tribute to craftsmanship and to memory. To those whom, with their hands, transform light into clothing and emotion into heritage. The soul of Andalusia beats in every stitch.
