Juan Vidal, new associate

29/05/2014

Vogue and the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España have reached an agreement whereby the award winners of Who’s on Next enlist ACME. This initiative reinforces the commitment both hold towards promoting and supporting new talent in Spanish fashion.

Juan Vidal, winner of last year’s competition, thus becomes a new member of the Asociación Creadores de Moda de España. With his incorporation, ACME adds 47 associates, amongst which you can find the most relevant fashion design labels on a national scale, from veterans such as Adolfo Dominguez and Roberto Verino, to young creators like Rabaneda and Moses Nieto. Amongst the aims and objectives of ACME is the encouragement of all activities that result in benefits for the fashion design sector as well as representing and defending the economic, professional and cultural interests of its associates.

The Who’s On Next competition is a unique initiative that each year awards the revelation designer. Yolanda Sacristan, Director of Vogue Spain, and the fashion team of the magazine are the ones responsible for selecting the candidates, amongst which they choose a single winner.  With only three editions, the award ceremony has become a not-to-miss date, being the fashion award with the most substantial funding in our country. This prestigious event is part of Vogue Fashion Fund, an initiative of huge projection that unites the 12 global editions of Vogue in a commitment to finding and promoting new talent.

Juan Vidal debuted in 2006 at Pasarela Barcelona and is now part of the official calendar MBFWM, in which, during two consecutive editions (58th  and 59th) he has received the L’ Oréal Award for Best Collection in the runway. The designer, from Alicante, has developed a style that, rooted in the great classical artists such as Balenciaga, takes a contemporary review of tailoring, with a masterful command of the cut and finishes where one can detect his closeness to the trade, to which he is directly linked due to family tradition.
