ACME incorporates a new associate. The designer Manuel de Gotor, specializing in swimwear and lingerie for men, joins the Association which now totals 52 brands.
The Basque creator, based in Madrid since 1990, began his career in the fashion world in the 80s. After training in the design school Goymar of Madrid, he returns to his hometown, Bilbao, to open his first store. In 1989 he presented his first collection of lingerie for men during the Fashion Festival in San Sebastian. Since then he has shown his creations in different platforms such as Pasarela Cibeles or Valencia Fashion Week.
In 1997 his designs give the international leap after signing with a European corporation the distribution and manufacture of his creations, expanding his collections of men’s underwear and swimwear to include prêt-à-porter for men and accessories.
Between 2000 and 2008 the designer focuses on curating and producing major exhibitions, as well as theatrical productions, without neglecting the design of exclusive pieces. His involvement in the art world serves as inspiration for his return to the catwalks in 2008, a task he combines with the direction of events, such as the tribute "Cristobal Balenciaga, unique creator" held in the space of Telefónica in Madrid in 2011.
Manuel de Gotor, who is preparing his next fashion show of lingerie, swimwear and accessories for men, off the official schedule, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, celebrates this year the 25th anniversary of his label with an exhibition to be held at the Museo del Traje. "Essence, Manuel de Gotor 25 Icons " will remain open to the public from October 2015 to January 2016, a celebration that will wrap up with the publication of a book that will review his career in fashion.
For the designer, his entry in ACME implies "mainly uniting efforts with my colleagues. Some of us started together our careers in fashion. Also it is a way of supporting the new generations of designers emerging in our country and of creating a single, compact force, together with all of them, in defence, enhancement and globalization of Spanish fashion. "
The world of lingerie and swimwear design is an important drive for the fashion industry in which labels associated to ACME stand out, such as Andres Sarda and Dolores Cortes, who export their collections each season worldwide. The incorporation of Manuel de Gotor adds to these relevant brands in Spanish fashion, being his, the first to specialize in creating pieces for men in our country.
