Designer and artist Ana Locking received the 2025 Felicidad Duce Award from LCI Barcelona, presented on May 6th during the closing ceremony of the 7th BCN Fashion Symposium, held at the school’s campus in Barcelona’s 22@ district. The award acknowledges Ana Locking’s career, bestowed with the 2020 National Fashion Award, the 2021 Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, and the 2022 Culture Award from the Community of Madrid. The designer, Vice President of the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), has developed her work between the intersection of fashion, contemporary art, and critical thinking.
The award ceremony concluded two days dedicated to the future of fashion design and communication under the title THREADING FUTURES: Fashion Design and the Imaginaries of Tomorrow, with the participation of students, faculty, and sectorial professionals.
The jury for this edition was chaired by Sílvia Viudas, CEO of LCI Barcelona, and included Marta Coca, Director of 080 Barcelona Fashion; Albasarí Caro, Director of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week; Pepa Bueno, Executive Director of ACME; Toni Sánchez, Director of Moritz Feed Dog; and Estel Vilaseca, Head of the Fashion Area at LCI Barcelona. Pablo Montanaro, President of Modacc, and Charo Mora, a fashion culture specialist, who participated remotely.
During her speech, Ana Locking paid tribute to Felicidad Duce and championed creativity as a form of knowledge. “Designing isn’t so much about producing forms as it is about organizing questions and telling stories,” noted the designer, concluding her remarks with a phrase that lends its title to the event: “Creating is a form of resistance. And imagining, a form of critique.”
The Felicidad Duce Award boasts over two decades of history and has previously recognized figures such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, Teresa Helbig, and Miren Arzalluz.
