Juan Vidal: The Pomegranate Loses Its Color

15/09/2026

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, Juan Vidal presented his Spring/Summer 2027 capsule collection, El Segundo Edén. This collection extends the Edén narrative by stripping the pomegranate motif of color rendering it black and white.

While Edén was built upon the fluidity of chiffon, silk, and satin, El Segundo Edén begins with a more fundamental, raw, and bold material. The pomegranate motif is now printed in black ink onto white cotton with a rustic, stiff texture, shifting the design into a more graphic, direct, and grounded realm. Said cotton sits alongside silk faille in neon fuchsia and coral—colors that almost feel artificial as they burst against black and white, reclaiming the original collection’s chromatic sensuality through a bolder visual language.

The capsule features voluminous, complex patterns where the shape arises from the garment’s own construction. The standout piece is the skirt, formed by a series of cuts, godets, and panels that evoke a diamond’s facets, creating an expansive silhouette. Accompanying it are generously proportioned men’s-style shirts and unstructured blazers. Dispensing with internal reinforcements and heavy tailoring allows the garments to rely on the cotton and silk faille’s inherent weight to hold together their shape and define their architectural form.

Once again the styling blends different worlds, just as Edén did. Here, Juan Vidal’s creative vision meets the technical, athletic aesthetic of Smore, a Spanish brand specializing in high-performance gear for running and other sports. The collaboration Smore x Juan Vidal features tops and leggings adorned with geometric stripes and checks in orange, fuchsia, white, and black—a palette that contrasts sportswear precision with the organic exuberance of the pomegranate motifs.

The presentation also includes a preview of the Hispanitas x Juan Vidal capsule collection, marking the designer’s first foray into the world of sneakers. The collaboration features two styles: a flat satin shoe adorned with multiple bows – reimagining the sandal from the first collaboration between the firms – and a second model that incorporates the heart; a recurring symbol in Juan Vidal’s universe, into the shoe’s actual construction, which is defined by a contrast of materials. Both styles are available in black, crafted from lambskin and suede or satin, subject to the design.

Segundo Edén was unveiled via a static presentation in one of Hotel Palace’s salons. Seven models blended the two worlds: Juan Vidal’s construction, volume, and symbolism combined with Smore’s elasticity, geometry, and functionality.
